I've decided that I am going to use PowerPoint to develop my Creative Critical Reflection Presentation. I am going to use pictures throughout with bullet points on each slide, and then go further in depth of my critical question response in the voice over. I will also attach a slide for all image sources I will use. I will then upload my presentation to youtube for easy access and also attach a link right here o my blog to the youtube video.

The Magazine Cover above is my final draft and the two below are previous drafts. I decided to change my layout from the first one because I felt it was too busy and some of the text was hard to read. I then changed it to a more simplistic layout but there was no barcode and the background photo was blurry. I ended up picking white text as I felt it looked more clean and changed the photo to one of my own. The photo was taken at Deerfield Beach which goes with the theme of local travel as Deerfield Beach in located in South Florida. As for the text I decided to put the article name of the 2 pager and two other articles that are in my table of contents. This is how my final draft - the magazine cover above - was developed.
This is my final two pager which is the main article in my magazine. My magazine is Local Travel and this issue focuses on how south floridans can enjoy local attractions during the COVID-19 pandemic. All the articles are based around this topic including this article which is "10 Best Local Places do Travel during A Pandemic". In this 2 pager I give a brief explanation of why these are the best places and how they have altered them to be safer during the pandemic. Then on the second page I included pictures of 5 of the attractions. I worked on this gradually and don't have any rough drafts because of that. that being said this is my final draft.
The picture I used as my background is a picture of Deerfield Beach taken from the website, www.criminal-defense-dui.lawyer/library/deerfield-attorney-dui-criminal-domestic-violence-law.cfm .

During this unprecedented time I have found myself having trouble finding things to do in South Florida while trying to follow CDC guidelines. Because of this I found myself surfing the web looking for activities to do and have found a few places that I thought I would share with you. Here is a list of the 10 best places to visit in South Florida during a pandemic. Preparation for Writing the Article My article is going to be on the '10 best places to locally travel during a pandemic'. This is because my magazine, LOCAL Travel focuses on places to visit in South Florida, and is marketed towards southern floridans. In order to make sure I am truly providing the "best" places in did some research. Some sources I found and am going to use are: - https://www.mommynearest.com/edition/south-florida/article/25-things-to-do-while-social-distancing-in-south-florida-this-summer - https://www.sun-sentinel.com/entertainment/fl-et-things-to-do-during-pandemic-20200317-xwmzhpkdn5f7redig7fuo5tghe-story.html - https://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/best-places-to-visit-in-florida -https://www.tripstodiscover.com/virtual-tours-in-florida/ Article Planning
My article will be in the format of a double page spread. The first page will have two columns with 5 summaries in each column (one summary for each place), while the second page is going to have pictures of each of the ten places. The template for my first page: Analysis of 10 tips articleThis example article discusses the rapper, Wyclef Jean's 'rules of life'. The magazine asked the rapper personally what his top 10 tips for life were and wrote a bullet point esque article about them. The large fun font has an inviting feel and makes the audience want to continue reading. The bolded numbers also catch the readers eye making them drift to each to each tip before reading the summaries. The perspective although written by a magazine editor is in the point of view of the rapper in order to make the reader feel connected to him as though he is directly giving advice to them. His tone is very lighthearted as his tips for life are playful such as tip number 6 where he talks about having dance moves like Mick Jagger. This tone connects to the article as it is suppose to be a fun guide from someones favorite rapper and it not supposed to be taken seriously. The editor does a good job portraying the tone as lighthearted by creating a fun article to look at and read. Each and every component is important when developing an article for a magazine and you can tell the editor of this article was aware of this as every feature down to the arrows are eye catching and give to article a very playful mood. This article impacts the reader as it provides a fun read, but also lets the audience see a different persons outlook on live and maybe even adapt some new concepts for the rapper's tips. Of course the article is not trying to persuade the reader to think like this rapper, but rather entertain then while also providing insight on how Wyclef Jean goes through life. The editor communicates this through the joyful tone. This is because as your reading the article you are probably laughing as the rapper is making jokes and can feel the positive energy on the page, which communicates the sense of leisure that Wyclef has on his outlook of life and can further impact the reader to take things less serious and have more fun in life.
Over the years media has always had an impact on the way people think. Whether it is through your local newspaper, the news, or a social media platform, you are influenced daily by the media. Although sometimes it can be beneficial, it can also lead to multiple issues.
This idea is referred to as media ownership, which is when few organizations have control over the increasing shares of the media. The most known organizations are Walt Disney, FOX, Comcast, and AT&T. The companies are known as conglomerates. Conglomerates are some of the most powerful companies do to media ownership. One way conglomerates have an influence is through film production. This can be an issue because independent film makers can keep up with these massive companies and eventually die off. Since these conglomerates have more money have can advertise more, get more movie deals, and invest in new technology, which ultimately doesn't give independent film makers any chances to succeed. The lack of competition can also allow them to significantly inflate their prices. This causes movie theaters to pay more, which leads to them charging you more! Another issue with media ownership involves the news portion of media, such as newspapers, magazines, and news networks. This issue stems from the fact that conglomerates control how society views EVERYTHING. As stated in the first video clip, media gives text meaning by using a certain font or lighting in order for the audience to feel a certain way about it. The reason this in an issue in news is because the media outlet can determine how you feel about an important subject, such as politics. For example, FOX News tends to portray republicans as the elite and honest party, while CNN does the same for democrats. This completely distorted the facts which can be very dangerous to a society. Overall, Conglomerates hold too much power through media ownership. Although giving text a meaning can be very useful in films and novels, it has no place in important real life topics. Also media ownership in film causes the death of independent film companies and an increase in prices. Therefore, media ownership is not all good and can result in some big issues. - My table of contents has a conventional layout that is easy to read and aesthetically pleasing to look at. It represents a group of people that like traveling but want to be safe during a pandemic. It is very important to socially distance right now making these articles are very relevant to the time period we are currently in.
- The name of my magazine is "LOCAL Travel" and it engages with audiences in south Florida that want things to do close to home. This particular issue focuses on local things to do during the coronavirus pandemic. I would distribute these magazines to grocery stores, gas stations, and drug stores are all south Florida while also providing an online copy on the magazines website. |
